Representatives of RAT/COPMOBA met with BLM officials in the BLM’s Uncompahgre Field Office on February 10, 2014. BLM has arranged for a group of trail crew leaders from Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC) to organize and spearhead a 2-day work project on Ridgway Area Trails. The effort will take place on May 10 – 11, 2014.
Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC) is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to motivating and enabling people to become active stewards of Colorado’s natural resources. Founded 30 years ago, VOC is a nationally recognized leader in outdoor stewardship volunteerism, having helped more than 96,000 people of all ages get involved in and become inspired to care for Colorado’s outdoors.
VOC wants 80 volunteers to fuel a 2-day power shot on our trail system and we want as many local volunteers as possible involved. Meals will be provided Saturday morning through Sunday Lunch. This event will kick off RAT’s 2014 effort to complete 20 miles of new trail on the BLM parcel north of town. We have, as of February 10th, BLM approval to build as much trail as we can this summer. Our local steering committee and the COPMOBA Board of Directors are working on funding sources to pay for South West Youth Corps (2 – 4 weeks), Americorps (8 weeks), and independent supervision (10 weeks) of full-time construction throughout the entire summer. Nevertheless, we plan 2 – 4 volunteer work weekends this summer, and May 10 – 11 with VOC will be the first of those.

Thanks for supporting RAT/COPMOBA. With your help, we will have a world-class trail system to ride right here in Ridgway by the end of Summer 2014.
